The patron Feast of Our Lady of Montallegro takes place every year in Rapallo from July 1st to 3rd.
This recurring event is very dear to the heart of residents but it also represents a fantastic occasion for the guests to know the traditions of this beautiful resort, in particular the “Pyrotechnics Palio”, with the magnificent fireworks shows, by day or by night.
Our Lady of Montallegro is the Patroness of the city of Rapallo, who appeared on July 2nd, 1557 to the peasant Giovanni Chichizola on the Mount Allegro, near the village. In this place the inhabitants built a Sanctuary that until nowadays is visited by many pilgrims and that, since more than 450 years, is the key point of the celebrations of the Feast.
Alongside the modernity of some events, the ancient traditions arise again, like the art of the “massari”, able to ignite the “mortaletti” (firecrackers), exactly as it was in 1619. Or the long lasting work of the “Sestieri” (the six neighborhoods of Rapallo) that every year challenge themselves to prepare the best fireworks to honor the Virgin.
